DFSV will transition into Safe Food Victoria

The introduction of the Safe Food Victoria Act 2026 sees the consolidation of Dairy Food Safety Victoria (DFSV), PrimeSafe and relevant food safety functions from the Department of Health commence operation from 1 July 2026. From this date, all functions previously delivered by these regulators will be delivered by Safe Food Victoria.

This legislation triggers the conclusion of Dairy Food Safety Victoria, the DFSV Board and the DFSV Acting Chief Executive Officer arrangement on 30 June 2026. All remaining staff will transfer to Safe Food Victoria on 1 July 2026 and will be available using the same contact emails and phone numbers. 

The commencement of the Safe Food Victoria Act also triggers an update to the title of the Dairy Act 2000, which will now become the Dairy and Food Innovation Act 2000. Legislation relating to licencing, compliance and enforcement and the regulatory framework will remain unchanged. All DFSV issued licenses will remain valid and there will be no change to the way audits are conducted or to the staff conducting them.
